Academic Support Center
Located in the Edwin A. Stevens Building Room 119, the Academic Support Center (ASC) assists Stevens undergraduate students in reaching their academic goals and becoming more effective learners.
Tutoring is provided free of charge by qualified upperclassmen. While students are encouraged to also take advantage of professors' office hours for more insight into a specific subject, ASC tutors interactively approach classroom subjects from a peer perspective.
Peer Mentors are made available to all incoming new students to assist them with their transition and academic goals throughout their first year at Stevens.
The ASC also provides workshops and individual meetings on a variety of topics designed to aid academic success including improved study skills, time management, overcoming procrastination, and test preparation strategies. These programs are available to all students free of charge.
The Campus Police Department is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. The Stevens Police Department is staffed 24 hours/7 days per week. Stevens police officers are fully certified by the New Jersey Police Training Commission and have full police powers within the State of New Jersey. In addition to emergency response, Stevens police perform such services as providing escorts after hours, fire safety services, Emergency Medical Services and campus parking lot administration. In addition, the staff of 18 armed Police Officers is complimented by two uniformed Public Safety Officers and two dispatchers who assist in providing professional security services to the Stevens community.
Campus Police work closely with students and Student Affairs staff to provide safety presentations on topics such as Drug & Alcohol Awareness, Sexual Assaults, Cybercrimes and crime prevention in general, along with a host of other public safety areas.
Stevens Police are housed in the Stevens Gatehouse and officers are also at the Wesley J. Howe Center reception desk, (201) 216-5105. In case of emergencies, Campus Police can be reached by calling (201) 216-3911.
The Office of Career Development supports all full time, on-campus students in obtaining career outcomes appropriate to their personal interests and career goals through career exploration programs, experiential education opportunities, and individualized guidance from the Career Development staff. Student programming evolves in accordance with the interests and academic studies of Stevens students and the opportunities and demands of the employment market. Students are encouraged to build their success early through experiential education opportunities that include summer internships, cooperative education assignments, and faculty-mentored research.

Career Advising and Career Exploration
Career education and programming are provided to develop the critical professional skill sets students need to present themselves to employers and to position themselves for future career success. A professional development workshop series is offered for undergraduate students, “OWN IT!”, and the “Career Masters” series is available for graduate students. One-on-one advising meetings, career planning workshops, corporate site visits, and networking events are provided throughout the academic year.
On-Campus Recruiting Program
Approximately 300 organizations visit the Stevens campus annually to recruit students for full time employment and summer internships. A Career Development orientation workshop is required to gain access to employment opportunities posted on CastlePointCareers, the interactive on-line system where students can post their resumes, review job descriptions, apply for positions, and schedule interviews.
Career Development hosts three career fairs annually. Career fairs serve as an information exchange between students and corporate representatives. The Fall Career Fair is targeted to graduating students. The winter and spring Career Fairs are open to all Stevens students and provide access to full time employment and summer internship opportunities.
Summer Internships and the Full Time Employment Job Search
Internship experience is an integral part of the student career development process that supports attainment of successful post-graduation career outcomes. The Office of Career Development facilitates student access to summer internship opportunities. Students participate by attending a Career Development Orientation workshop and meeting with a career advisor who will assist in resume creation and the internship search process. Students are encouraged to start their full time job search one year prior to graduation. Programming is provided on how to conduct a job search and interact with employer representatives. Success is best achieved through participation in the services offered by the Office of Career Development.
Pierce Dining Hall is the University’s all-you-care-to eat dining facility that located on the second floor of the Wesley J. Howe Center, and is the heart of the dining program at Stevens Institute of Technology. Pierce offers a "marketplace" style dining experience with fresh fruit and salads, NY Style Deli, homemade desserts, and delicious, hot, home-style entrees with a local and international flavor. Pierce offers an unparalleled dining experience since every table in the dining hall boasts spectacular views of the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline.
- Colonel Johns is located on the first floor of the Wesley J. Howe Center across from the Stevens Campus Store. CJ’s provides made to order breakfast, NY Style Deli, convenient grab & go options, salads, personal gourmet pizzas, grilled chicken, delicious deserts and more.
- America's Cup is located in the S.C. Williams library and offers We Proudly Brew Starbucks: fresh, rich-brewed, Italian style espresso innovative premium teas and seasonal beverages. It also offers a variety of convenient grab & go options including sandwiches, salads, pastries and confections.
- Red & Gray Café is located in Burchard and is our newest dining location. It serves delicious flatbread sandwiches, hand tossed salads, fresh fruit smoothies and gourmet desserts.
- Quack Shack is located in the Schaefer Athletic Center. It serves as concessions during athletic events and offers beverages, energy drinks, fruit and snacks perfect for any sporting event.
The meal plan options are designed to provide students with increased flexibility. With a meal plan, students are able to dine in the Pierce Dining Hall, which is all-you-care-to-eat and open seven days a week. Meal plan options are assigned by residence and are per semester. Meal plans and their prices are subject to change. Students who choose to live in Stevens Housing are required to purchase a meal plan.
At Stevens, we want to make it easy to dine and socialize with friends without having to carry cash. DuckBills are a prepaid, dollar for dollar, declining balance account housed on your Stevens ID Card that may be used to pay for purchases at participating on and off campus locations. The Office of the Graduate Academics is responsible for maintaining academic records and degree verifications, approval and review of all graduate programs, approval of continuing professional development programs, formulation and review/revisions of graduate academic policies through the Graduate Curriculum Committee, and monitoring graduate student progress.
Consistent with Strategic Positioning Plan goals, the Dean of Graduate Academics, Dean Charles Suffel, provides interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary leadership. The Dean and the Office of Graduate Academics interfaces with the Office of Graduate Student Affairs, Office of Undergraduate Academics, Office of the Registrar, Office of International Student Services, and Deans of individual schools to facilitate a cohesive academic experience for graduate students and monitor graduate student academic progress.
The International Student and Scholar Services office (ISSS) is committed to assisting international students and scholars in the accomplishment of their academic, personal, and professional objectives at Stevens. The main role of the ISSS is to facilitate compliance with federal regulations that govern the immigration status of international students and scholars during their time at Stevens. The ISSS provides educational workshops, information, and services in support of these regulations. The ISSS office is responsible for all international student and scholar immigration-related matters, including the issuance and/or processing of:
- Form I-20, F-1 visa
- DS-2019, J-1 visa (students and scholars)
- H-1B applications for temporary worker in a specialty occupation
- O-1 applications for workers of extraordinary ability
- University-sponsored Lawful Permanent Residence (LPR/Green Card) applications
- Employment authorization documents
International Student and Scholar Services supports the academic mission of the University by providing specific programs and services to international students and scholars. The ISSS also promotes international and multicultural understanding by providing cross-cultural opportunities and events for the Stevens community and its international student and scholar population.
Freshman Orientation is designed to help first-year students have a successful start at Stevens. The program includes through programs and activities that facilitate classmate interaction, the opportunity to meet faculty and staff, and time to get comfortable in their new home away from home. During Orientation students learn what they need to do to be successful inside and outside the classroom.
Orientation is conducted in three parts: Pre-Orientation, Orientation, and Extended Orientation. Pre-Orientation is optional, but highly recommended, and is followed immediately by the required portion of Orientation. Pre-Orientation includes participation in one of several exciting experiences including: Outdoor Adventure, Performing Arts, Sports and Fitness, International Flavors of NY, and City Life Experience. The primary objective of Pre-Orientation is to allow students to get to know one another while exploring mutual interests. The required portion of Orientation begins immediately following Pre-Orientation and continues until the first day of classes. Orientation programming addresses academics, social life, health and safety, the Stevens Honor System, student clubs and organizations, and adjusting to college life. During the first 8 weeks of the Fall semester, the offices of Residence Life and Student Life present a series of programs to extend the Orientation experience in order to assist first year students as they traverse their first semester at Stevens.
The Stevens Post office is a licensed branch of the US Postal Service and transacts all standard post office business. Mailboxes are assigned at Orientation to all undergraduate resident students. Students may keep the same mailbox as long as they are enrolled at Stevens. All correspondence and packages for students should be addressed to: (Student's Name), (Box Number), Stevens Institute of Technology, One Castle Point on Hudson, Hoboken, NJ 07030. Prior to assignment of box numbers, all mail should be marked "Hold at Post Office for Arrival" and the recipient’s name must appear on all mail.

The Stevens Print Shop meets student copying and printing needs, from resumes on fine paper to full-color brochures and posters. It is located in the basement of the Wesley J. Howe Center, (201) 216-5110.
The Stevens Receiving Area takes delivery of and processes all incoming large parcels and packages. This includes all staff, faculty and student items. All smaller packages are sent to the Stevens Post office for pick up. Large items are kept in the Receiving Area until retrieved. Receiving is located in the basement of the Wesley J. Howe Center, (201) 216-5102.
The mission of The Office of the Registrar is to provide the highest level of service to the University community in an efficient and timely manner through the continued use of innovative and evolving technology.
The Registrar provides students with access to their academic records, enrollment and degree verifications, academic calendars and exam schedules along with other important student data.
Through an integrated mix of personal and online services, we have developed a system that supports Stevens students in managing all aspects of their education. Through the University’s convenient My Stevens portal, you can execute the following Registrar-related actions:
- Register for classes
- Check your grades
- View unofficial transcripts
- Review class schedules
- Search for classes
- View graduation checkout status
- Change address and phone number
In addition to online services, students may receive the personal attention that is the hallmark of a Steven’s education by visiting the Registrar’s on the 10th Floor of the Wesley J. Howe Center.
Stevens will release a student's transcript upon request, provided that his/her account is not overdue and that he/she requests the transcript in writing. Students should allow approximately one week to process the transcript. The transcript is sent directly by Stevens in a sealed envelope to the requested party. Stevens will only release an official transcript directly to the student in a sealed envelope. All transcripts are sent by U.S. mail, unless other arrangements are made. If a student needs the transcripts in less than one week, he/she is required to pay for overnight, two-day, or priority mail. All transcript requests must be made in writing over the student's signature or directly from a Stevens email address. No verbal requests for transcripts will be honored under any circumstances, nor will any requests from a third party unless the student has signed a release for the transcript to that third party.
The Office of Residence Life is committed to providing a safe, supportive and lively living and learning environment that nurtures each student and promotes their growth and development. Living at Stevens leads to some of the most exciting and rewarding times of a student’s life. Most Stevens undergraduate students live in Stevens housing. Students who submit their application by the deadline are guaranteed Stevens housing.
Housing contracts must be accompanied by the housing security deposit, which is returned when the student leaves Stevens. There will be a cancellation fee assessed to any students who cancels their housing application.
Upper-class students who participate in the Cooperative Education program are not guaranteed Stevens housing during the co-op semester(s) if their job is within commutable distance to their home, but will be accommodated if housing is available.
At Stevens, each residence hall has been designed to meet student needs. All residence halls have completely furnished rooms, and all rooms have been completely rewired with state-of-the-art Wi-Fi connection service into the campus-wide computer network, cable TV access and complimentary laundry facilities. For the safety of all students, cooking equipment is not permitted in student rooms that do not have a kitchen; however, each residence hall has at least one cooking facility, and bringing a microwave and/or refrigerator is permitted (only one 700W microwave per room).
The undergraduate residence halls are conveniently located throughout campus and within walking distance of all classrooms, laboratories, dining, and recreational facilities. We also provide Stevens managed housing within the City of Hoboken called Stevens Leased Housing. A synopsis of what is offered in Stevens Housing (on campus and leased) includes:
- Davis Hall provides double and triple occupancy housing for over 200 male and female new students.
- Humphreys Hall provides double and triple occupancy for more than 160 male and female new students.
- Hayden Hall provides double occupancy housing to accommodate 135 male and female new students.
- Palmer Hall houses 90 male and female upper-class students in singles and quads.
- Jonas Hall contains double and quad rooms with private bathrooms in each room. It houses 216 male and female upper-class students.
- Castle Point Hall provides triple shared occupancy living, for new students.
- River Terrace Apartments provides 2 to 7 person apartments with double and single rooms for upper-class students. All suites include private bathroom and kitchen.
Special Interest Housing
- Lore-El (Women's Center) is located at 802 Castle Point Terrace - is a beautiful Victorian-style residential house located on the Stevens campus. The facility provides residential space for 17 upper-class female students in single, doubles and triples.
- C.A.R.E House (Community Awareness Residential Experience) is located at 1036 Park Avenue - is a residential house for 18 upper-class male and female students in singles and triples. This housing focuses on service learning.
- Greek Housing (Fraternities & Sororities): There are currently 15 recognized Greek-Letter organizations at Stevens - each offering unique and valuable characteristics and opportunities. Eligibility to live in a Greek house is determined by each house.
Stevens Leased Housing
The majority of our Stevens Leased Housing apartments are: fully furnished, 2 - double occupancy bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (4 person apartments). They include Wi-Fi, internet and cable TV access. They house male and female upper-class students.

Most Stevens graduate students live in off-campus houses and apartments in Stevens’ hometown of Hoboken, N.J., as well as other cities which surround the university. Our local area is an exciting urban community with a great assortment of shops, restaurants, parks, historical sites, businesses and nightlife. Public transportation options abound, and Stevens also offers a robust shuttle program to make nearby neighborhoods extremely accessible to campus. A small number of graduate students live in Stevens Leased Housing apartments – located in Hoboken within walking distance of the campus.
Personal Property & Insurance
To prevent loss or damage to personal property, it is advisable to remove any valuables from residence hall rooms during periods when classes are not in session. Students may want to consider obtaining personal property coverage under their family’s existing homeowner’s insurance policy or to apply for separate coverage to further protect their property on campus. The Office of Residence Life can provide additional advice on personal property insurance and can refer students to a private insurance carrier not affiliated with Stevens.
Student Counseling and Disability Services (SCADS) is a comprehensive mental health resource center for the campus community. SCADS offers a variety of high quality counseling services to Stevens students in order to enhance both academic and personal achievement. The Office offers individual counseling, group therapy and psychiatric services as well as a variety of educational and consultative services designed to promote wellness at Stevens.
The Office provides disability accommodations to students who are eligible. SCADS works with undergraduate and graduate students with learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders, physical and medical disabilities, and psychiatric disorders in order to help students achieve their academic and personal potential and disability accommodations and services.
Our Counseling Center understands, appreciates and celebrates the differences that exist between individuals at Stevens Institute of Technology. We are committed to insuring that SCADS is a welcoming space for all and that our professional services are culturally competent and inclusive.
All services provided by the Counseling Center are confidential and free of charge. No information is released without student permission. The Student Health Center is an acute care facility located on the ground floor of Jacobus Hall. The Health Center’s goal is to improve and maintain physical wellness and productivity for students. Health Center services are free and include health promotion and disease prevention, care during acute and chronic phases of illness, and referrals to outside providers when appropriate. Student Health Center staff members recognize the basic human rights of all patients who seek treatment and all students are treated with respect, consideration, and confidentiality.
The Student Health Center is staffed by a full-time registered nurse and physicians. A physician is available Monday through Friday with evening hours every Thursday. Please view the Student Health Center website for physician hours at: http://www.stevens.edu/sit/health . During off-hours, please contact Campus Police at 201-216-3911 for a medical emergency. Students needing emergency medical attention will be transported to the local hospital via ambulance. Charges for healthcare services performed outside of the Student Health Center are the individual student’s responsibility.
All enrolled Stevens students are required (by NJ state law) to provide a Student Health and Immunization Record to the Student Health Center. Failure to provide immunization documentation can result in a Registrar’s hold being placed on a student account. This will halt the enrollment process until immunization compliance is satisfied. All full-time (12 undergraduate credits or 9 graduate credits) Stevens students are required to have health insurance coverage. For insurance purposes, a full-time student is based upon registration for on-campus courses or PhD research and excludes WEBCAMPUS courses. A student may request insurance eligibility if full-time status includes Web courses by contacting the Student Service Center. Students with proof of comparable coverage are eligible to waive the student health insurance. Go to http://www.universityhealthplans.com/ and click on Stevens Institute of Technology. Follow the prompts until you click on WAIVER FORM or ENROLLMENT FORM. It is important that all students pay close attention to the waiver deadlines. Failure to either enroll or waive the health insurance by the appropriate deadlines will result in an automatic enrollment into the student health insurance plan and your account will be charged accordingly.
If a student is contemplating participation in a varsity sport, we strongly encourage him/her to enroll in the insurance plan offered by Stevens. We ask all students to closely evaluate their current health insurance coverage and the Stevens health insurance plan and make an informed decision regarding the available health insurance options. Students and parents/guardians should promptly access www.universityhealthplans.com to learn more about the student health plan coverage. Students who have an out-of-area HMO (e.g. Kaiser Permanente, etc.) should seriously consider purchasing Stevens’s health insurance as many out-of-area plans provide only emergency coverage in the Hoboken area.
Waive the student health insurance only if you are certain that your plan provides adequate coverage in the Hoboken, NJ area, including lab tests, x-rays, MRI’s, prescription pharmaceuticals, physician specialists, rehab facilities, outpatient hospital services (including facility fees and surgical expenses), mental health care, and emergency room fees. Students are responsible for unpaid balances. In addition, by visiting www.universityhealthplans.com, you can view alternate insurance products for vision, dental, or travel.
The Student Service Center (SSC), located in the Wesley J. Howe Center is a valuable resource for navigating through administrative tasks with convenience and efficiency.
The SSC houses Student Employment, Financial Aid, and Student Financial Services. The counseling and support staff members are cross-trained and empowered so that the first person a student meets with has the knowledge and authority to resolve the most common questions and problems. Management-level staff from all areas are also present in the SSC to oversee operations and meet with students, if required.

The Office of Undergraduate Academics provides general academic advising and support services to the entire undergraduate student body, in addition to the concentration-specific advising provided by the faculty advisor (see Faculty Advisors). A Freshman Faculty Advisor is assigned to all undergraduates upon their arrival at Stevens. Students who are pursuing a degree in business will be assigned a permanent business program advisor. For students pursuing degrees in programs other than business, the Freshman Faculty Advisor serves as advisor until the students formally enter a concentration area of study. This change occurs with the completion of a Study Plan with a Concentration Advisor during Term 2 for science, computer science, and humanities students; Term 3 for engineering students; and Term 5 for engineering students in the Five Year Reduced Load Program.
Students who transfer to Stevens to pursue a degree in engineering or one of the sciences, including computer science, are assigned a Concentration Advisor upon their arrival at Stevens. Transfer students must complete a Study Plan with their Concentration Advisor during the semester prior to taking their first concentration elective. If a transfer student is undecided about his/her concentration area of study, a Freshman Faculty Advisor will be assigned to him/her upon arrival. The Faculty Advisor is available to answer academic and career related questions.
